Shumi ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Shumi mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Shumi. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account data: Email address or anonymous authentication token provided through Firebase Authentication when you create an account or sign in.
Profile data: Display name, profile photo, bio, and hobby interests you choose to provide.
Location data: Precise GPS coordinates when you use map features, check in to a hobby spot, or create a join point. Location is used only to power in-app map and check-in features. We do not sell or share location data with third parties.
User-generated content: Photos, posts, check-in captions, messages, and other content you create or share inside the App.
Device and usage data: Device type, operating system version, crash reports, and in-app analytics (e.g. which screens you visit, feature usage). This data is used internally to improve the App and is not sold to third parties.
Push notification tokens: If you grant permission, we store a device token to send you push notifications about activity in your hobby communities.

2. How We Use Your Information

To operate and deliver the features of the App (maps, check-ins, posts, chatrooms, communities).
To send you push notifications about community activity (only if you opt in).
To analyze usage patterns and improve the App using aggregated, internal analytics.
To respond to your support or privacy requests.
To enforce our Terms of Service and keep the App safe.

3. User-Generated Content and Social Media

Content you post on Shumi — including photos, check-ins, and captions — may be featured by Shumi on our official social media accounts and marketing materials to promote the App and the Shumi community. If you do not want your content used in this way, please contact us at jacob@joinshumi.com and we will honor your request.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers: We use Google Firebase (Firestore, Authentication, Storage, Cloud Functions) and RevenueCat (subscription management) to operate the App. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy policies.
Other users: Content you post publicly inside the App (profile, posts, check-ins) is visible to other Shumi users.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of Shumi and its users.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email jacob@joinshumi.com. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Children's Privacy

Shumi is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures (including Firebase Security Rules and HTTPS) to protect your data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, through an in-app notice.
